ABOUT MY PRACTICE
Using a variety of media, materials and techniques, my practice currently investigates ways to express, delineate, and convey memories, precious, sacred, and personal along with detached and ambiguous remembering's. Concepts explored, cultivate zeitgeist that is descriptive and experiential of particular periods to which the memory is of. The work created is communicated to the viewer through a heterogeneous mix of materials including: the printed pages of books, and various papers, ecriture, typography, and images from analogue photographs, along with media including: oils, graphite, acrylic copolymer emulsion, and rabbit size.
The contrasts of the wet media reacts richly together with corporeality of the materials and imagery utilised to explore remembrances. The work is built up in layers, a mnemonic palimpsest, an archaeological dig in reverse of recollections and reminiscences. Working figuratively and expressively in various proportions of two dimensions on paper and canvas, and within the context of installations.
Current work in progress takes on an element of the archaeological dig, within which are explored singular memories through the layout of a core sample. Running through each work like a spinal cord are imagery of layers seen in a fish pond, with matter on the bed of the pond, within the water, on the water, and reflections on the surface, these add further layers. The imagery within and around the pond is executed in graphite or oils along with transferred analogue images, typography and ecriture relating to the spectrum of the remembrance being explored.
My future projects will continue explicating the temporal and metaphysical aspects of deciphering, uncovering memories, the act of remembering, the causality of experiences recalled, along with the spirit of time and place.
